Gallery Lafayette, Clermond Ferrand, France
During the renovation of this shop 4 old escalators and a few staircases had to be replaced by 8 new installations. All this had to be done in one weekend, from Saturday evening to Tuesday morning, so that the shop would be affected as little as possible by the replacement.
The escalators were hoisted out and into the shop through a hole in the roof of the historical building by means of a 350-ton crane.
The work started on Saturday evening, after closing time of the shop, and on Tuesday morning the new escalators were mounted, assembled and tested for the public.
